It is important that for you to know that the African community has always had traditional natural Healers. These Healers use many different techniques, methods and systems. I find that it is a mistake to compare them to each other because each has a special talent granted by God. The vast majority of Healers are dedicated to making us healthy. I greatly honor the countless ancestors who passed this tradition on. I greatly respect the African Healers, herb stores and/or health food stores that keep traditional medicine alive.
To be African is a blessing from God. To be holistically healthy is wonderful. The only other choice is disease. There is nothing more restrictive than a disease. It is best to be strict and restrictive with your diet than to let a disease like arthritis, diabetes, fibroid tumors, high blood pressure, herpes, hypertension, PMS or constipation cause your life to be restricted. There is plenty of health information but very little on the subject of African (ethno-medicine) medicine and the unique biochemical nutritional status of Africans. I see many Africans in bookstores, health food stores, at lectures and at Caucasian health conferences trying to make African centered sense out of the European information. They usually end up more mis-educated and frustrated than informed, or become happily drunk on European cultural information. I have attempted to simplify and amass vast amounts of information to provide the reader with knowledge that will help him/her make intelligent health decisions.

WITHOUT THE GULLAHS AMERICA WOULD NOT BE WHAT IT IS TODAY!

THE GULLAHS The first contemporary female doctors (MD’s) in America were Gullah women. Gullah’s is a title created by whites and given to Africans that lived near the sea and rivers. The Gullah area includes Tidewater, Virginia, parts of the Chesapeake Bay, and extends 50 miles inland, continuing down the east coast to Mayport, Florida. The titles Gullah, Trinidadian, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, Latino, Creole, etc., were created by Whites to keep Africans mistrustful and divided form each other.

The Gullah were forcefully brought to the Sea Islands because the Europeans were without resources, land, labor, and the technology needed to build their wealth, empires and American colonies. The Gullah captives possessed skills in agriculture, science, military science, tool making, bookkeeping, cabinet making, furniture making, construction, banking, government, teaching, and most of all, they had 10,000 years of culture in the most developed civilization in the world – that of Africa. It is the African technology that produced European and American wealth.
One of the reasons why African Holistic Health remedies have not been utilized is because it was illegal for Euro-American doctors and drug stores to use African trained Gullah doctors in their practices. Midwives were actually the ones who latterly practice medicine on the families.
